Escape from Junkworld: Shopping Trip
Wash
Investigator

Wash will be taking advantage of his Royal Treatment to purchase a ship that he'll crew with other investigators and maybe some infiltrators that he's trying to keep an eye on. Mostly he's excited to get to fly again after over a year.

Skill Goals: ???

Olympus Upended
Plysi
Infiltrator

Plysi married a demigod several years ago. Tragically, he has since lost his wife, but not before they had a beautiful daughter Rhodanthe. As their little girl begins manifesting strange ablities, it is occurring to Plysi that he never found out who the divine parents was. Unfortunately, since everything became very dangerous, he never did find out. He prioritized keeping the baby alive.

Retained Skills: None

Pogémon!
Howard "Wash" Washburne
Infiltrator

Wash's daughter Rose was born during the spike of Pogemon appearances about a year ago. He soon found himself partnered to a large intimidating Mineral type Pogemon named Chrysoprase. Or at least, he claims to be Wash's partner. With how much he dotes on baby Rose, Wash suspects he's actually waiting for her to grow up enough to partner with her, and he's quite okay with that. When not fussing over his family, Wash fusses over other wayward children in his job as a social worker.

Retained Skills: None (sorry Rose, no troll)

The Haunted Isle
Wash
Finvestigator

Investigating as a mermaid is certainly a new one. But at least Zoe and Rose are in a similar situation. Wash's mermaid totem is some sort of tropical fish granting him a tail that is quite reminiscent of his shirts. Upon learning that they're back in the same world as Bando, Wash's goal became to avoid having to deliver any babies.

Once they made contact with the Crownbreaker school, the Washburnes were quickly accepted due to the presence of their little fry. Wash was able to take Rose on playdates with Jaiden's army of seahorse babies. Rose was rather frustrated they couldn't hear her but did have fun playing with other babies.

As the Deep Song became more pervasive, Wash did his best to shield her using Psychic Protection. He was tempted to just ride things out in Liminal but realized that Rose's disappearance would likely cause a kerfuffle. He did however make sure to take her there to sleep at night and to keep Zoe from being distracted while hunting down the Deep Singer.

Retained Skills: None

Lightside/Darkside
Hoban
Infiltrator

Hoban is an expert tinkerer who is always coming up with new ways to use clockwork in day to day life. His wife Zoe is a member of the Council and they have a baby girl named Rose. He's created devices to keep her entertained while he works. His baby bouncer proved to be a particularly hot seller.

Upon learning that Zoe had been keeping the truth about the cicardian divide from him, Hoban was quite upset. But he chose to not give baby Rose the supplements when she weaned. She needs to be a part of January's future, not the past.

Retained Skills: Clockpunk tinkering

Villains and Vigilantes
Halden "Hal" Washburne
Infiltrator

A few months ago, Hal came to adopt a baby girl who he named Rose. Within a matter of weeks, it became quite apparent that the baby was in fact Empowered with a variety of elemental shifting powers. He's started a blog for the antics of Super Baby. And has realized he's going to have to look into all this licensing and insurance stuff and oh God he's still trying to figure out this whole baby thing no one told him there would be super powers involved!

Hal contacted Professor M's School for Empowered Children for more information about dealing with the whole powers thing. He also came across Zoe, a rather distinctive looking Empowered woman with some measure of experience with babies like this. While trying to avoid too much hassle from Manticore Knights, Hal came across a low level artifact that granted him control over how comfortable clothing is.

Hal took baby Rose to see the Queen go by. All he expected to come of it was a glance and some pictures with help from a young girl. That was until Queen Gloriana (aka the Empress) took an interest and called them out of the crowd so she could hold Rose. Hal suddenly found himself discussing parenting strategies with the bloody King of England and wondering how exactly his life reached this point. Also Emperor mark.

Deciding that was quite enough excitement for a while, Hal opted to watch the Ring's inauguration from a family friendly coffee shop. Which proved to be a very good life choice.

Retained Skills: Empowered ability: The Wash Cycle (control over how comfortable clothing is), Emperor's Favor

Roman Holiday
Lavarus
Infiltrator

Lavarus is a slave in a household perhaps best known for their stable of female gladiators. He, however, is more talented in the realm of baked goods. He fell for Zo, one of the gladiators. The relationship has recently resulted in a baby girl (Rosa). A situation Lavarus would be far more pleased with if there weren't mumblings that his owner is considering giving up the gladiator business.

Lavarus spent most of the Jaunt preparing food for various parties and worrying about being separated from Zo and Rosa. Ultimately Zed purchased the entire gladiator stable as well as Lavarus. He could scarcely believe such good fortune from their strange new owner but was overjoyed that his family would remain together. He still wished to be free of course, and didn't realize that that would come soon enough when Zed vanished like any Investigator.

Retained Skills: None

Code of Dishonor
Wash
Investigator

Wash will be attempting to pass himself off as a midwife's apprentice to be present at the birth of his child. Also awkwardly trying to avoid getting stabbed. And maybe trying to learn to be the WORST NINJA EVER, because that would be funny.

Wash arrived in Nakamiyo and attempted to avoid getting drafted into the Mibugumi. After learning Zoe was in Suzuki Village, he embarked on an epic road trip north accompanied by Byerly who was trapped in weasel form. Along the way, the Cabbage Incident occurred, which they will never speak of.

Wash successfully convinced the village midwife (secretly the Empress) to take him on as an apprentice, spinning a tale of his village's midwife having contracted an unfortunate case of stabitis. He introduced himself to Zoe the Pirate Queen and assisted in delivering her baby. He managed to steal at least a little baby holding time.

The flaw in this plan became apparent when he had to keep the charade up for the remainder of the Jaunt, including delivering other babies. He also assisted with carrying when the village experienced some intense dragon tantrum related flooding. The midwife convinced Zoe to take them with her when she fled in light of LOTS OF IMPERIAL TROOPS.

Retained Skills: Midwifery. The obvious skill for the ninja jaunt.

Escape from Junkworld
Wash
Investigator

Wash and Zoe managed to repair an Outrider and secure a berth in the flight from Gehenna. Once docked on the Corona, Wash helped with repairs anywhere he was allowed to. He attempted to distract Infiltrators from Liminal portals often through use of such brilliant tactics as "Look! A monkey!" After a radiation leak was detected, Wash helped evacuate everyone into Zoe's Liminal bunker where they rode out the rest of the Jaunt.

Retained Skills: None

Children of the Night
Wash
Investigator

Wash spent most of the Jaunt following Zoe around like a puppy because he found the whole thing overwhelming. They fell in with a pack of werewolves in order to remain close to River, infiltrated as the werewolf Naida. Navigating vampire politics was a bit beyond Wash's skillset. They did, however, learn that they were expecting a healthy baby girl.

NAME: Hoban "Wash" Washburne
CANON: Firefly
POINT IN CANON: post-series, pre-movie (or as I like to call it "not on the end of a harpoon")
AGE: 30s
APPEARANCE: Kinda like this Wash is not the most stunning physical specimen, though he does have impressive arms. He is actually taller than Zoe, but as he tends to slouch, he appears to be shorter in most circumstances. He has tousled blond hair and blue eyes. He usually wears obnoxious Hawaiian shirts over his jumpsuits.
CANON HISTORY: Have a wiki link

CANON PERSONALITY: When we are first introduced to Wash, he is sitting on the bridge playing with toy dinosaurs. However, as soon as alarms begin going off, he immediately focuses on the task at hand, albeit with a bit of cussing in Chinese. This provides a rather good introduction to a character who is generally a very easy going, somewhat goofy guy who can nonetheless focus quickly when the situation requires it. In particular, when faced with a particularly tricky bit of flying, he becomes almost eerily calm. At least most of the time. (Eventually Alan Tudyk got an Xbox...)

Wash would generally prefer to avoid conflict whenever possible. He's always eager to suggest a solution that doesn't involve violence. He's usually the first to suggest running as an alternative to standing and fighting. That does not, however, mean that he never stands his ground. He has been known to take up a pistol to protect those he cares about. He'd just prefer they explore alternate approaches before they blow their problems up. He is often a calming influence when debates among the crew get feisty.

Much to Mal's consternation, Wash is incredibly devoted to his wife Zoe. To the point that he was able to resist Saffron's advances despite her considerable training in seduction. Being separated from Zoe tends to make him rather moody, even morose. Which could get interesting depending on how plot roles fall during Jaunts.

While his devotion is admirable, it does on occasion cause tension with Mal. He has, at this point, mostly worked through this conflict, but if faced with a choice between obeying an order and Zoe's well being, you'd better believe there will be some insubordination. While many of his childlike qualities are quite endearing, they do come with a certain amount of petulance and a tendency to sulk.

He always worries about Zoe when she’s out on the job. Which, considering the nature of their work, is somewhat justified. This tendency to worry does extend well beyond just Zoe to the rest of the crew. He's already worrying, it's not like it's a lot of trouble to worry about some extra people. He is, perhaps, not the best suited to the life the crew leads. With his skills, he could easily go elsewhere. But he is so very in love with Zoe that he'll do all manner of stupid things just to be near her.

Wash is generally a people person. He's not the most outgoing of the crew (hi Kaylee), but his laid back attitude and ready humour put him right up there. He generally gets along with everyone and tries to make friends. He also would have made an awesome dad if Joss Whedon didn't hate happiness. Ahem.

Related to that, Wash is quite talkative. This only intensifies under stress. He's the sort of person who figures that if he just keeps babbling long enough maybe the solution will come out of his mouth. He tends to think out loud, so sometimes it does. “Just keep talking” has proven to be a fairly effective technique while under Alliance interrogation. Turns out officers don't know how to react to a guy going on about how hot his wife is.

POINT OF DEPARTURE: N/A
ABILITIES: Wash is an incredibly skilled pilot, capable of pulling a Crazy Ivan in a cargo vessel. He is also a decent mechanic, working with Kaylee to keep the ship working properly. While he does not consider himself a fighter, he is competent with a pistol when he does find himself in a combat situation. He also can be eerily calm in the midst of chaos (except when he's not...). And he is very good at carrying.

INVENTORY; A jumpsuit, a truly obnoxious Hawaiian shirt and a pair of plastic dinosaurs
ANYTHING ELSE WE SHOULD KNOW? Not that I can think of

S A M P L E S;
ACTIONSPAM SAMPLE: Previous game post and threads
PROSE SAMPLE: Based on Test Drive Sample 33

Wash was really starting to think he could do with some dull predictability. The first place that definitely wasn't Serenity had been strange. Somehow this place was even stranger though, even if it was nice for things to actually stick around when he took his eyes off them now.

One thing was for sure, he was never looking at Simon and all his fancy schooling the same way again. Flight school was one thing, but apparently universities were just vicious. He definitely wasn't prepared this library being quite this much like the sort of place they tended to end up back home.

Somehow, he'd always imagined a lot fewer bombs at universities. Call him crazy, but this was the first he'd heard of academics being quite this deadly.

He's supposed to be meeting up with the engineers. Offering his help with the whole moving explosives around without them exploding bit. And that would be a lot easier if it weren't for these gorram snipers popping in to say hello now and then. It was no way to make friends.

He's almost ready to make a break for it when a bullet strikes a few meters ahead. "Aiya!" He's been in firefights before but he really didn't like them at all. Especially not when there's no way for him to shoot back and maybe put a stop to the fighting. He had never realized just how many reasons he hated snipers for until this very minute. How did Zoe and Mal even manage this sort fo thing during the war?

A student suddenly approaches from behind, causing him to jump slightly. Really making a case for being able to move explosives around without a considerable amount of boom. But he finds the calm quickly enough. It's not like flying, but he needs it right now. "We'll have to find another way around. Too many eyes on this one, and our cargo's too good a target."

They'll figure this out yet.

Emotions

Wash is generally a fairly content person. But this is punctuated with bouts of worrying, especially on Tranquility.

Also new to Tranquility is missing Zoe very very much, which is likely to intrude fairly regularly on his emotions.

Memories

- Seeing Zoe for the first time
- Marrying Zoe (Mal was all sorts of not present)
- Being on septic vac for a month after Mal found out about the wedding
- Pulling a Crazy Ivan against a bunch of Reavers
- Smuggling cows. Suggesting they smuggle beagles instead next time.
- Being tortured by Niska
- Discussing with Zoe whether they should have a baby
- Cockpit sex

Name: Hoban "Wash" Washburne
Canon: Firefly
Original or Alternate Universe: OU
Canon Point: Post-series, pre-movie (aka not on the end of a harpoon)
Number: Random!

Setting: The Firefly 'Verse (See, this time it's not long and complicated, just cancelled and incomplete!)
History:
Wash was born on one of the Core colonies. The planet was heavily polluted and Wash longed for more open space. Not to mention seeing those star things people were always going on about. In order to attain these dreams, Wash decided to enter flight school. At some point, mostly likely to pay for tuition, Wash took a job at a fried food establishment. He was spectacularly bad at it and got himself fired.

While in flight school, he met a man who preferred to be addressed as Mr Universe. The two became friends, which would prove beneficial in the future (and doomy, but this is pre-Serenity Wash, so LALALA). Wash ultimately graduated second in his class, behind Mr Universe, who most likely hacked his grades.

During the Unification War, Wash’s skills naturally attracted the attention of the Alliance. However, he wasn’t comfortable with that idea, and sought out work in the civilian sector. Or at least he thought he did. It turned out that the civilian courier company he was working for had ties to the Independents. This led to him being shot down on his first outing, and spending the remainder of the war in a prisoner of war camp. While incarcerated, he entertained his fellow prisoners with shadow puppets.

After the war ended, Wash managed to find actual civilian work on the border worlds. Civilian, but not necessarily entirely legal. He moved from ship to ship, always looking for a crew where he really felt comfortable and earning glowing recommendations from every employer. Eventually he found a comfortable home on an aught three Firefly called Serenity. Part of the appeal came from the highly attractive first mate. Unfortunately, she didn’t like him.

Well, at least not at first. Eventually something happened to convince Zoe of his many fine qualities. Probably his persistent charms. Unfortunately, the show was cancelled so there aren't a lot of details on that front.

The pair opted to keep their relationship concealed from the captain, knowing full well that he was going to totally flip when he found out. Fortunately, Mal had zero conception of the fact that Zoe was in fact a woman and not Chewbacca, and they were able to conceal their relationship for quite some time. Eventually they did find out, though who knows whether that was before or after they married. We do know Mal wasn't at the wedding. If I were to speculate, that would be because they didn't tell him about it.

As if their lives weren’t complicated enough being not always successful smugglers, Serenity wound up picking up the Tam siblings, who are among the most wanted people in the Alliance. This led to many a zany adventure, close call and stunning display of piloting skill on Wash’s part. Wash continued to butt heads with Mal over Zoe through the course of this. Mundane things like insufficient vacation time and deadly serious things like Mal wanting Wash up on the bridge when Zoe was injured. That said, he still rigged up the big red button so Mal would be able to call everyone home when the miracle repairs for Serenity arrived.

Conflict with Mal came to a head when Zoe used Mal to cover her own lack of confidence in Wash’s notions for the loot from a successful heist. In a stunningly mature move, Wash tampered with the launch controls so they couldn’t leave for the job without his interference. The argument ended with Wash going on what should have been a simple job in Zoe’s place. On this job, Wash learned about carrying and scary. Mal and Wash got snatched by men working for Adelai Niska, who was angry about them backing out on a job earlier and kicking his lieutenant into the engine.

Naturally, Mal and Wash opted to spend their torture time arguing about Zoe. This was most likely an effort by Mal to keep Wash conscious. This is how Wash learned that Zoe married him in violation of orders. Zoe arrived to buy them back. Niska, being a sadistic villain, attempted to force her into a sadistic villain choice by only allowing one. Zoe wasn’t going to have any of that nonsense, and chose Wash before Niska was able to finish his villain speech. As soon as they made it back to Serenity, Wash decided they had to go rescue Mal. After the successful mission, Wash was rewarded with wife soup, as he did good.

It was also around this time that Zoe began to bring up the idea of having a baby. Wash was reluctant due to the dangerous lives they led, but Zoe was slowly wearing him down.

Personality: When we are first introduced to Wash, he is sitting on the bridge playing with toy dinosaurs. However, as soon as alarms begin going off, he immediately focuses on the task at hand, albeit with a bit of cussing in Chinese. Much to Mal's consternation, Wash is incredibly devoted to his wife Zoe. To the point that he was able to resist Saffron's advances despite her considerable training in seduction. Being without her on Traunquility is likely to make him rather moody. It might even go so far as morose.

While his devotion is admirable, it does on occasion cause tension with Mal. He has, at this point, mostly worked through this conflict, but if faced with a choice between obeying an order and Zoe's well being, you'd better believe there will be some insubordination. Abilities, Weaknesses and Power Limitations:
Wash is an incredibly skilled pilot. He once successfully pulled a Crazy Ivan in a cargo vessel. Serenity essentially dances in his hands. He is also somewhat skilled at basic repairs, often assisting Kaylee in getting the ship up and running again. He is competent enough with a pistol, even if he prefers non-violent approaches when possible. He's also pretty good at carrying.

In terms of weaknesses, Wash is perhaps a bit too conflict averse. He will stand up if pushed far enough, but he's not quite as eager as some to jump to a cause. Additionally, while he does have an endearing childlike quality, it also comes with a degree of childish petulances. This often manifests in conflicts with Mal, with Wash tending to sulk rather than work the problem out like grownups.

Log Sample:

Most of the crew hated reorganizing the cargo bay. If it weren't for Zoe's tendency to be... very persuasive, it would probably never get done. But Wash didn't really mind. Carrying was one of his very many skills, after all. He'd learned all about it.

The important thing was that it got him out of the cockpit. He loved flying, but his part in jobs generally kept him away from the rest of the crew. So an afternoon spent tossing sacks of foodstuffs up to Kaylee was fine by him. They'd even made a game of it, racing against Jayne and River. Kid could be scary competitive, but it was good to see her doing something normal. Normal for them, anyway.

One particular member of the crew tended to have a role pretty far from where he was waiting. Which really was a damn shame in his estimation. If he had his way, she'd never be out of his sight.

"Hey, Zoe, could ya grab that cylinder over there?" He pointed to one that had rolled just the right distance under a shelf.

She shot him a look that said she knew exactly what he was up to. And then bent over to retrieve the object anyway. And that was why he loved her.

Well, one of many reasons. Right now, he was admiring another one. Two reasons, really. Curving up into a glorious third. Could all count as one, in a way. If you wanted to think of it that way.

Comms Sample:

Okay, so we've got pirates. Wouldn't be a ship without them popping up eventually. But I'm going to go out and make a completely kuangzhe de suggestion here. How 'bout we give talking to them a shot? Before we go right to, well, shooting. They're probably just as eager to get what they came from without a fight. Everyone wins!

[He pauses, considering]

Except maybe people itching for target practice. But I reckon there must be a shooting range on here somewhere.
