Hey, my name's Kate, we talked on your Flight post a while back. Things got busy in between, but I'd like to officially sign up to help out in the department.
Like I mentioned then, I've got some experience with space ships, more living in them than flying them but I've done a little of that, too. I'd like to learn my way around these and the spacesuits/EVA type stuff, but repair/mechanical work I'll pretty much be starting from scratch.
I put in my application, let me know what else I need to do to get started. Thanks!
I understand your team is immensely shorthanded. In that respect, I believe I can help. I can fly--but more importantly I imagine, I can repair and rebuild spacecraft, and I have the strength of ten men.
We're always glad for more help. We spend a lot more time on maintenance and repairs, since the shuttles get damaged differently every jump. But we need as many qualified pilots as possible in case we need to leave in a hurry.
I'd be more than happy to help. My question is--I know that expertise is shared between departments - Flight Crew would be my first choice, you understand - but I've spoken to a man named Leo Fitz in Engineering who's also shown great interest in my skills.
I'd like to help in both places, but I've not been here long enough to know the kind of barriers that might stand in my way.
To be honest, the biggest barrier is the human need for sleep. I used to pull shifts in Engineering before we lost half the flight crew in a single jump.
[Including Carolyn, whyyyy]
Right now we have a lot more part-timers than official department members and that's a bit of a problem.
Hello CFO Wash. This is Mystique, one of the volunteers with Flight Crew. I'm contacting you with regard to Lydia Martin's plan to create a star map and the Tranquility's progress through it. There's some discussion here, attached to my Jump duration measurements.
We were hoping that you'd be able to pilot a shuttle containing Lydia, her equipment (and any staff), and myself as co-pilot. I've had simulator training so far but nothing practical, so I'd like to learn from the best. I believe the voyage will take place at some point in the next month or so. What do you think?
[OOC: Feel free to PM me questions or shoot me a pplurk at pyg!]
I'm probably the one most qualified to do it right now. And I'd definitely like to get you into an actual cockpit if you've had enough simulator training.
With our limited pilots, we should combine trips when we can. She can come out and check what she can do as long as what she can do doesn't involve damaging the shuttle.
That's me. Always good to hear from a friend of River's. And definitely always good to get more volunteers for flight. We were in pretty rough shape a couple jumps back.
We've got simulators to get you up to speed before you actually go up.
And a lot of what we do here is repairs and maintenance. The kid'd never seen electricity before, so if he can get the hang of it, I'm sure you can too.
A lot of it is learning the controls and giving just enough of a push to move where you want to. Angles, that sort of thing. We have simulators to practice on first.
Hi Wash. So FYI we have access to the secondary shuttle bay now, and it is free of monsters and instead full of some half-finished shuttles of a type I haven't seen before. I've poked around some and they seem to be attack craft, but you'd probably have a better idea of exactly what they can do (and how far from operational they are). I've drawn a map to access it, which I'm attaching.

Well, actually, we'll even do that before the application. We're really not the fussiest of departments on that front.
I'm so sorry, everything from new years got totally lost

[ If Kara came back, this was where she's come, and Leoben was optimistic that she might. ]
And I don't need to sleep, technically. Even if we're designed to feel like we should.

Now it just sounds useful.

But it makes scheduling a bit tricky.

[ It's simple for Cylons okay. ]
I don't suppose you were here when Kara Thrace was still a flight officer?

I've clocked about 32 hours so far. There's definitely enough time for me to get some more in, if you'd like.

We also have another passenger for a separate research project, if you'll allow it. I figure we hit as many birds as we can with one stone.

See you on deck soon.

Any tips for a guy that's got little to know actual flight experience?

I'm decent enough with maintenance and I've got a friend in engineering so that works out.
When do we earn the cool matching flight jackets?
Re: text;
I'm working on hats though. Everyone likes hats.

Thanks again for the information. I'm looking forward to working together.
